Dr. Vijayan P is a highly accomplished MCh-qualified Trauma & Acute Care Surgeon, General Surgeon, and academic leader with extensive experience in major trauma, emergency surgery, surgical critical care, and trauma systems development.
He is recognized as the first MCh-qualified Trauma Surgeon from the South Indian states, making him a pioneering force in the evolution of superspecialty trauma care in South India. With advanced training from AIIMS New Delhi, combined with rich academic experience at Christian Medical College, Vellore and SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, he has been instrumental in building structured trauma care pathways, academic programs, and quality improvement initiatives.
Dr. Vijayan has also undergone focused international training in Trauma Surgery at Inova Fairfax Hospital and MedStar Washington Hospital, Washington DC, bringing global best practices in damage control surgery, trauma ICU protocols, and advanced chest trauma stabilization to clinical practice.
He serves as an ATLS Instructor Faculty, an ICMR investigator in Trauma Quality Improvement projects, and has been a faculty member at multiple national and international trauma conferences. His academic excellence is reflected in several award-winning research presentations and landmark trauma publications, particularly in ERAS after trauma laparotomy, blunt solid organ injury, hemothorax, soft tissue infections, and vascular trauma.
At SRM Global Hospitals, he leads the dedicated Trauma & Acute Care Surgery team, bringing advanced expertise in Damage Control Surgery and Surgical Stabilization of Rib Fractures (SSRF), establishing one of Chennai’s most unique trauma care services.
